Does Car Insurance Cover Riot Damage? Before you decide if you need car insurance to cover riot damage, it's worth understanding what it covers. Simply put, car insurance is designed to protect you against the possibility of damage to property or injuries caused by you or your car. It's important to understand the various types of coverage included in car insurance to ensure that you get the right protection for your vehicle, personal assets, and the contents of your car. Here are some of the most common types of coverage:    Comprehensive coverage covers damages to your vehicle that aren't caused by natural disasters. This includes damages caused by collisions with another vehicle, vandalism, malicious mischief, or arson. Because it doesn't specifically address disasters, comprehensive coverage rarely covers riots. If you live in an area where there's a high risk of rioting, then comprehensive might be a good choice for your needs. However, it's still important to understand the difference between comprehensive coverage and collision coverage.    Collision coverage would need to be added to your car insurance company's standard policy in order to cover damages to your vehicle caused by a riot. Simply put, this means that your premiums would likely go up significantly since you'd need to replace your vehicle. Therefore, if you're paying a lot more for your premiums than you need to, you could actually be setting yourself up for big trouble. For example, consider how much your premiums would increase if you hit into a fence or a street sign. You probably wouldn't have any insurance claims from those accidents, but you could end up having to pay twice as much for your comprehensive coverage, or even get charged higher interest on your payments!    In addition to being expensive, comprehensive coverage often has a deductible. This is the amount that you would need to pay for repairs to your vehicle in the event of a claim. If you don't have that money saved up, your car insurance claim likely won't be paid. So make sure that you're able to pay that deductible in the event that you do end up filing a claim.    Another factor to keep in mind is that comprehensive coverage typically doesn't cover damages caused by riots. There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as if the riot was caused by a vehicle rolling through a police line. But for the most part, comprehensive coverage only covers vehicle damage. It doesn't provide coverage for personal injury or property damage caused by your vehicle during a riot. So if your vehicle gets destroyed in a riot, comprehensive coverage is not going to help you out.    Comprehensive coverage is designed to protect you in situations where you might need to replace your vehicle because it was damaged by something deemed to be "rucks". If you hit a big truck or a large hailstone, then comprehensive coverage would kick in and cover the repair costs for your car. But if you were to get hit by something less massive and dented, then your vehicle would need to get repaired without the help of this kind of coverage.    Depending on the type of car insurance company you use, some will cover damages caused by riots altogether. Other companies will not. Understand the difference between these two different policies before you choose a policy. And make sure Insureinfoq discuss this with your car insurance company, too. Your agent may be more than capable of explaining the differences. Or he might be able to recommend a separate insurer that does provide coverage for riot damage.    In a world where everything is constantly changing - and unfortunately this is true for car insurance policies, too - it's very important to stay up-to-date about what types of coverage are available to you. Sometimes things change for the worse. That's why it's important to have comprehensive coverage. But do not neglect basic liability insurance, either. This is the insurance on your car insurance company will pick up if there's an accident involving you, and you should make sure you have it in sufficient quantity to pay for any damage done to property, or to any person you may injure.
